Yemen’s Foreign Ministry accused Saudi Arabia of criminal actions, called for international accountability and asserted Yemen’s right to respond. The statement came amid reported intensified fighting between Yemeni forces and Saudi-backed forces.
TEHRAN — Yemen’s Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to assume responsibility for what it described as “criminal” actions by Saudi Arabia in Yemen, according to a statement reported by Iran’s IRNA news agency and carried by Al Masirah.
The ministry accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out “criminal and terrorist” actions in Yemen, saying the alleged conduct recalled the kingdom’s past actions in several countries in the region, particularly Yemen, Iraq and Syria.
It said Yemen had the legitimate right to respond to any Saudi activity that threatens the country’s security and stability, adding that it would take the necessary measures.
The ministry also said statements issued by some governments after each Yemeni response provided cover for Saudi Arabia’s alleged actions and helped legitimize them.
The statement was issued as fighting between Yemen’s armed forces and Saudi-backed forces reportedly intensified in parts of Yemen. The report said the clashes were accompanied by advances by Yemeni forces and the withdrawal of Saudi-aligned forces from several areas.
