Rank Group has warned that a sharp increase in gaming machine taxes could make about a third of its venues unviable and force them to close.
The parent company of Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos said around 30% of its UK workforce—about 2,000 people—could be affected. The Government is reportedly considering raising machine games duty from 20% to 40%, a change the Social Market Foundation said could generate around £450 million in additional tax revenue.
