Seventh person killed by bear in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region this month, investigators say

A 51-year-old woman was killed by a bear in her garden in the village of Voznesenka, bringing the number of bear-related deaths in Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk region this month to seven, state investigators said. The bear was shot dead by a neighbour, according to TASS. Investigators have opened a criminal case alleging that regional officials failed to control the bear population and prevent attacks. Russia’s environment ministry said around 20 to 30 bear attacks are recorded annually, disputing the impression that the current problem is widespread.
