Russian Nuclear Experts to Join Planned Maintenance at Iran’s Bushehr Plant
Rosatom chief says 47 specialists have returned to the facility, with the number expected to rise to 150.
Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev said 47 Russian specialists had returned to Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant and that the number would rise to 150 for planned maintenance and fuel-assembly replacement at the facility’s first unit. The report said replacement nuclear fuel had already been delivered and described the plant’s situation as calm.
MOSCOW — Specialists from Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom are set to take part in planned maintenance at the first unit of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev said, according to Iran’s IRNA news agency, which cited RIA Novosti.
Likhachev said 47 Rosatom specialists had so far returned to the Bushehr facility and that their number was expected to increase to 150.
He said the specialists would begin scheduled maintenance and fuel-assembly replacement work at the operating plant from mid-September. Nuclear fuel intended to replace part of the plant’s fuel assemblies has already been delivered to Bushehr, he added.
Likhachev previously said that the condition of the Bushehr plant had been discussed during a meeting between the Iranian and Russian presidents on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, and described the situation at the facility as calm.
Rosatom personnel are also involved in the construction of Bushehr’s second and third units, according to the report.
