TEHRAN — Israel’s public broadcaster claimed early Friday that Kuwait and Israel had begun secret talks following attacks attributed to Iran against countries in the region.
According to the report, cited by the Lebanese news website Al-Nashra, an unnamed source described as familiar with the matter told Kan 11 that Kuwait and Israel were conducting confidential discussions amid regional developments and attacks.
The report also quoted an unnamed former Kuwaiti government minister as saying that cooperation between Gulf countries and Israel could help contain common adversaries and preserve security and stability in the region.
The claim came after Yossi Shelley, Israel’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, said that another country—and possibly Kuwait—would soon join the Abraham Accords. The agreements between Israel, the UAE and Bahrain were signed at the White House on Sept. 15, 2020, with U.S. mediation.
