Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei marked Persian Poetry and Literature Day and Shahriar’s commemoration day in a post on X, praising Persian as a cultural bridge between peoples and highlighting Shahriar’s contribution to Persian literature.
TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei marked Persian Poetry and Literature Day and the commemoration of poet Shahriar by paying tribute to the Persian language and its cultural heritage.
Baghaei wrote on the social media platform X that Persian language and literature were “a treasure placed in the treasury of human culture” and a bridge that had brought distant souls closer and connected nations for centuries.
He said the occasion, observed on 27 Shahrivar, provided an opportunity to reflect on the heritage of Persian language and literature.
Baghaei described Shahriar as a poet who found the Persian language to be his home and made poetry a mirror for seeing what may remain hidden from view amid the turmoil of the times.
He added that Shahriar’s contribution went beyond serving Persian language and literature, saying the poet also reminded people to honor the language’s original refuge and homeland.
Baghaei concluded his message by quoting verses attributed in the post to Shahriar:
“Upon the soil of the homeland of Layla, scatter your sweet soul; The kings of love learned a lesson from Majnun.”
