Press Association reports that Northumbria Police said a black Audi A3 entered the River Wear at Panns Bank, near Wearmouth Bridge, at about 1.30pm. The bodies of two teenage boys and a teenage girl were recovered. A 17-year-old boy reached safety and was arrested in connection with the incident; he is in hospital with non-serious injuries. Police said the investigation is at a very early stage and urged the public not to speculate.
