Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced plans to adjust the state pension triple lock from 2030 to help fund a National Care Service in England. Pensions would rise by inflation or at least 2.5%, while the automatic link to average earnings would be removed. Mr Burnham said the change would generate significant savings, but the Institute for Fiscal Studies said the reform would not be sufficient to fund universal social care in the next Parliament.
