According to a Washington Post report cited by Iran’s IRNA, six U.S. officials familiar with internal Defense Department data said the number of American military personnel killed since the start of the war against Iran may be higher than the Pentagon’s publicly reported figure. The identities, timing, locations and circumstances of the additional deaths remain undisclosed, and the Pentagon declined to explain the discrepancy.
The report also says more than 820 U.S. service members have been wounded. A U.S. Central Command estimate reviewed by the Washington Post put the war’s cost at about $43.6 billion by early September, including $28 billion in munitions but excluding damage to U.S. bases. The reported casualty figures and cost estimates remain subject to dispute or incomplete public disclosure.
