TEHRAN — News reports said Yemen’s armed forces carried out an attack near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
Iran’s IRNA, citing Reuters, reported that thick smoke rose near the airport following the attack. Sky News also reported seeing flames and a large column of black smoke in the area and said aircraft movements around Riyadh airport had stopped.
Saudi Arabia’s urban relief committee reportedly declared an emergency for Jeddah and Taif. The evidence provided did not include details on casualties, damage or the nature of the weapon used.
Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s armed forces, said the day before that Saudi warplanes had carried out 300 strikes on several Yemeni provinces over the previous week. He said the attacks involved F-15 and Typhoon aircraft operating from the Taif and Khamis Mushait air bases and targeted the provinces of Taiz, Hajjah, Marib, Al Jawf, Al Bayda, Amran, Lahij, Al Hudaydah and Saada.
