Iran’s top security official, General Mohsen Rezaei, says Tehran is more prepared than ever to defend itself against potential U.S. attacks and would target American bases and Washington’s interests in the region with greater severity if attacked. In remarks cited by IRNA and reported by Al Jazeera, Rezaei said Washington’s calculations about Iran were wrong and that a war had begun with the involvement of Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu. He also noted that Iran, after the U.S. exit from a joint memorandum, has revised its strategy toward Washington. Rezaei added that Iran recently tested an anti-ship missile near a U.S. aircraft carrier and that talks with mediators Qatar and Pakistan continue, with the Qatari intermediary conveying Tehran’s conditions to Washington and Iran awaiting President Trump’s response. The conditions include an end to the war on all fronts, the unfreezing of Iran’s assets, and the end of the naval blockade. He also said Tehran remains committed to its nuclear doctrine for now and has not decided to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, leaving that decision to U.S. behavior. Additionally, Rezaei expressed Iran’s desire for an end to the Saudi-Yemeni conflict.
