Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh after being found guilty of sexually abusing two children in the Glasgow area. He denied the charges. The abuse occurred between 1993 and 1996 in one case and between 2006 and 2010 in the other.
Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday after being found guilty of sexually abusing two primary school-age children.
Dott, 49, was convicted of two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour. The jury heard that he exposed himself in front of a girl and a boy, touched them inappropriately and kissed them.
The girl was targeted between 1993 and 1996, while the abuse of the boy took place between 2006 and 2010. Both cases occurred in the Glasgow area.
During the five-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow, the woman, now in her 40s, told the court that Dott had abused her on multiple occasions while she was a child. The second victim, now a man in his late 20s, also said he had been abused by Dott on multiple occasions.
Dott denied the charges but was found guilty by the jury. Lord Harrower remanded him in custody, and his name was added to the sex offenders register.
Dott turned professional in 1994 and won the World Snooker Championship in 2006, defeating Peter Ebdon in the final at the Crucible in Sheffield. He also reached the final in 2004 and 2010, losing to Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson respectively.
Following his conviction, Dott’s name was removed from World Snooker’s Hall of Fame.
