Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh after being found guilty of sexually abusing two children. He denied the charges but was convicted of two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour.
Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott is due to appear at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday for sentencing after being convicted of sexually abusing two primary school-age children.
Dott, 49, was found guilty of two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour following a five-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow. The court heard that he exposed himself in front of both children, touched them inappropriately and kissed them.
The girl was abused between 1993 and 1996, while the abuse of the boy took place between 2006 and 2010. In both cases, the incidents occurred in the Glasgow area.
During the trial, one of Dott’s victims, a woman now in her 40s, told the court that he had abused her sexually on multiple separate occasions while she was a child. The second victim, a man now in his late 20s, said he had also been sexually abused by Dott on multiple occasions.
Dott denied the charges but was found guilty by the jury. Following the conviction, Lord Harrower remanded him in custody and his name was added to the sex offenders register.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Dott turned professional in 1994 and won the World Snooker Championship in 2006, defeating Peter Ebdon in the final at the Crucible in Sheffield. He also reached the final in 2004 and 2010, losing to Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson respectively.
Following his conviction, Dott’s name was removed from World Snooker’s Hall of Fame.
