Britain’s electricity grid operator cancels call for more power

Britain’s electricity grid operator has cancelled a request for companies to generate more power after the potential shortfall was addressed before Monday’s evening peak.

The National Energy System Operator (Neso) issued an electricity margin notice early on Monday as a contingency, forecasting a potentially tight period between 4pm and 7pm. The notice was not a warning of power cuts and did not mean electricity supplies were at risk.

Neso had earlier said the predicted margin shortfall had fallen to around 104 megawatts from an initially highlighted 1,400 megawatts, after generation firms made more power available.

Shortly after 4pm, Neso said it had cancelled the notice after actions by the organisation and market participants restored the operating margin required for the evening peak.

“The system is operating as normal and Great Britain’s electricity supplies remain secure,” a Neso spokesman said.
