CENTCOM Claims Oil and Commercial Shipping Continued Through Strait of Hormuz
CENTCOM claimed that more than 1 billion barrels of oil and over 2,000 commercial ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. support, while the report disputed the figures and described Iran’s alleged halt in oil exports as part of a claimed U.S. blockade.
U.S. Central Command commander Brad Cooper claimed that more than 1 billion barrels of crude oil and over 2,000 commercial vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz in recent months with U.S. support. He also said key shipping routes had been cleared of mines and that traffic in oil, goods and liquefied natural gas had reached its highest level in six months over the previous two weeks. The report presents these claims as unsubstantiated and says Cooper alleged that Iran had exported no oil during the period because of an alleged U.S. blockade.
