Armenian ambassador to Iran Grigor Hakobyan urged expanding rail and trade ties with Iran, emphasizing Armenia’s role in the North-South Corridor and the planned Siunik rail link to boost regional transit and access to southern seas.
Tehran — The Armenian ambassador to Iran, Grigor Hakobyan, said Iran’s rail network plays a key role in linking landlocked CIS countries to international routes and would help Armenia access southern seas while diversifying links with Europe. In a meeting with Iran’s Railways CEO Jabar Ali Zakeri, Hakobyan urged stronger bilateral railway cooperation and a bigger Armenian role in regional transit, particularly along the North-South Corridor. Zakeri supported expanding Armenia–Iran rail ties and emphasized Armenia’s growing participation in regional transit. The two sides are pursuing the rail link via the Siunik region as part of efforts to boost regional trade and transit and are moving to operationalize the route.
