South Korea’s president ruled out any Hormuz deployment that would involve participation in or intervention in a war, while leaving open limited measures to protect shipping and citizens.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said Friday that Seoul would not deploy forces or military equipment to the Strait of Hormuz if doing so involved participating in or intervening in a war, according to IRNA citing Chosun Daily. He said South Korea would consider only limited measures to protect commercial shipping, oil transport routes and its citizens. Seoul recently said it had sent a fact-finding team to assess regional security conditions and denied reports that Washington had requested the deployment of military equipment.
