Palestinian officials said Dana Joude gave birth in Damon prison after six months of administrative detention and was released the following day. They called for an international investigation and greater protections for Palestinian women detainees.
Palestinian prisoner-rights officials said Dana Joude, 35, gave birth in Israel’s Damon prison after being held for six months without charge or trial. They said she was released one day after the birth, when her administrative detention order expired.
Lina al-Tawil, head of a Palestinian prisoners’ defense center, described the case as a serious violation of the rights of women detainees and called for international organizations to investigate her detention and ensure the safety of Joude and her newborn. Prisoners’ affairs expert Hassan Abd Rabbo said more than 90 Palestinian women were being held at Damon prison and urged monitoring of pregnant and ill detainees.
