Nationwide launch of free conversion of online taxis to dual-fuel CNG
Registration opened for all active online taxi vehicles; about 5,000 applicants have signed up so far
IRNA reports that NIOPDC has opened nationwide registration for converting online taxis to dual-fuel CNG at no cost, with around 5,000 applicants; registration is SMS-driven via gcr.niopdc.ir, and all provinces now allow participation.
Tehran - IRNA - The manager of the CNG program at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) announced that registration is now open for all vehicles actively operating on online ride-hailing platforms nationwide to convert to dual-fuel (gas and gasoline) at no cost. He said about five thousand applicants have already registered in the system.
According to IRNA, citing the Ministry of Oil, from Saturday, 28 Shahrivar (Persian calendar) registration is available for online taxi fleets across the country, with owners who receive a SMS able to visit the gcr.niopdc.ir site to complete registration and select an authorized workshop. The list of eligible vehicles is provided by the online platforms, and the city-specific selection criteria depend on geographic size and mileage; in some cases daily mileage exceeds 100 kilometers, or there may be up to 48 trips per week.
The move aligns with the ministry’s broader policy to curb gasoline shortages by substituting CNG and reducing household fuel costs and public transport expenses. To date, the highest levels of interest have come from Tehran, Alborz, and Kerman, but applicants in all provinces can now register for the free dual-fuel conversion.
