Iraqi figures alleged that Washington is seeking to disarm resistance groups and urged the Iraqi government to regulate their weapons instead of confiscating them.
An Iraqi political analyst accused the United States of pressuring Baghdad to disarm resistance groups in Iraq and the region, according to Iran’s IRNA, citing Al-Malouma. Wissam Aziz said Washington was intervening in Iraq’s internal affairs and seeking to end the groups’ presence. Former Iraqi lawmaker Mohammed Ibrahim called for regulating weapons through a central committee linked to the prime minister and commander-in-chief, rather than confiscating them. He proposed a two- or five-year plan for gradual regulation.
