Iran nuclear chief says fusion energy cannot be overlooked

Iran’s nuclear chief called for faster progress on the country’s fusion program and highlighted newly unveiled plasma-diagnostic systems and a non-destructive testing laboratory.
TEHRAN — Iran’s nuclear chief, Mohammad Eslami, said the country must continue developing nuclear fusion technology, describing it as a key energy source for the future. Speaking at an Atomic Energy Organization ceremony, Eslami said Iran must advance the field independently amid sanctions and restrictions on international cooperation.
He said the organization’s fusion program had moved beyond proof-of-concept work toward building systems and capabilities, with support from knowledge-based companies and universities. The ceremony also included the unveiling of three tokamak plasma-diagnostic systems and the launch of a non-destructive testing laboratory.
