Iran nuclear chief credits late leader with advancing nuclear industry

Iran’s nuclear chief attributed the development of the country’s nuclear sector to the late leader’s policies and support, citing reported progress in electricity generation, radiopharmaceuticals and other civilian applications.
Iranian Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami said the country’s nuclear industry was built on the guidance, institutional support and emphasis on domestic expertise of the late leader, according to an interview published by IRNA. He cited the Bushehr nuclear plant’s reported production of 80 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, plans to expand nuclear generation, and a portfolio of about 80 radiopharmaceuticals. Eslami also described applications of nuclear and plasma technologies in medicine, food irradiation and agriculture, and said Iran aims to develop 20,000 megawatts of nuclear capacity by 1420 on the Iranian calendar.
