The evidence describes an auction of a rare Charles Rennie Mackintosh lantern designed for Miss Cranston’s Ingram Street Tearooms, estimated at £20,000–£30,000. The sale also includes a Willow Tearooms chair, cutlery and designs for a House for an Art Lover. The lantern is believed to be one of five known complete examples, although that rarity claim remains qualified.

Verified facts: A lantern designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Miss Cranston’s Ingram Street Tearooms in Glasgow is scheduled for auction in Lyon & Turnbull’s “design since 1860” sale, held in Edinburgh and online on October 14 and 15. The lantern is estimated at £20,000–£30,000, and the evidence describes it as one of only five known complete examples still in existence. Photographs from Mackintosh’s time show lanterns of this design in the White Dining Room, also known as the Ladies’ Luncheon Room, completed in 1901. The auction also includes a Mackintosh ladderback chair designed for Miss Cranston’s Willow Tearooms, estimated at £10,000–£15,000, as well as original Willow Tearooms cutlery and Mackintosh’s designs for a House for an Art Lover.
