Greek Foreign Minister Meets Iran's Foreign Minister on UN General Assembly Sidelines

During UN General Assembly sessions in New York, Greece’s Georgios Grapetritis and Iran’s Seyed Abbas Araghchi held talks on bilateral relations, Iran–EU ties, and regional issues, with both sides underscoring continued dialogue. IRNA reports from the event.
New York – IRNA – On the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Greek Foreign Minister Georgios Grapetritis met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss matters of mutual interest. IRNA reports that the leaders talked about the latest state of Iran–Greece relations, Iran–EU engagement, and regional and international developments. The annual gathering runs from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28, 2026, with expectations that around 130 presidents and heads of government will attend in person. The official UNGA theme is: “Rebuilding Trust, Steering Transformation: A UN that Delivers for All.” In addition to public speeches, high-level meetings and bilateral and multilateral talks are planned along the sidelines of the assembly. Araghchi emphasized the importance of adhering to international law, safeguarding sovereignty, and upholding the UN Charter, while cautioning against unilateral actions that threaten stability. Grapetritis welcomed continued dialogue and Greece’s constructive role in addressing regional and international challenges, and expressed readiness to deepen bilateral, economic, and cultural cooperation.
