Iran’s Foreign Minister Araqchi in New York for UN General Assembly, Holds Talks with Italy’s Tajani

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi arrived in New York to take part in the 81st UN General Assembly, where he met Italy’s Antonio Tajani on the sidelines and previously met Switzerland’s counterpart. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi arrived in New York to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to IRNA. In the city, he held a second meeting with Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on the sidelines of the General Assembly to discuss bilateral ties and regional and international issues. Earlier in the journey, Araqchi met with Switzerland’s foreign minister, IRNA reported.
IRNA quoted Araqchi as telling Iranian reporters in New York that his most important goal for the trip is to be present on a major international podium to defend the rights and interests of the Iranian people. He noted that his visit follows a war-like situation that has persisted in the region and outlined the need to use UN-speaking platforms to articulate Iran’s positions.
The Italian meeting in New York took place on a Tuesday on the fringe of the UN gathering, with discussions focusing on Iran–Italy relations and broader regional and international developments. The two ministers underscored the importance of adhering to international law and multilateral diplomacy in addressing current challenges.
IRNA also reported that the UN General Assembly’s official theme for the 81st session reads: “Restoring trust, delivering transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all,” highlighting calls for renewed cooperation, multilateral action, and alignment of international institutions with new global challenges.
Araqchi’s schedule in New York includes additional bilateral and multilateral meetings with various state leaders and foreign ministers as the General Assembly unfolds. The IRNA reports collectively frame the trip as a platform for defending Iran’s rights and advancing its diplomatic objectives at the highest international level.
